How to Fix a Paper Jam
If you work in an office then you’ve probably experienced a paper jam. They always seem to happen at the worst possible time. The first thing you have to remember is to stay calm. Paper jams are actually very easy to fix if you know what you’re doing. Follow these instructions and don’t start randomly poking around. If you aren’t
then you can make the problem worse.
- Locate the jam. The cause of the jam will usually be a stuck piece of paper inside the paper tray. If you cannot find the trouble there, then you may need to go inside the machine.
- Remove the jam. Do not pull hard or yank on the paper. Be gentle and remember that copiers have fragile parts. If you aren’t careful then you may end up with a bigger problem down the road.
- Double Check. Just because you got the large source out of the way doesn’t mean everything is clear. Double check for extra scraps or torn pieces that may be left behind.
- Run a cleaning program. This will clear your brushes of any tiny pieces of paper or dust that may be left behind.
